Emergency Update to Statewide Treatment Protocols, Protocol 2.13 Pain and Nausea Management

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) is proud to release the updated protocol for Pain and Nausea Management. These new options provide better management of pain and discomfort for our patients. There are further updates to the Statewide Treatment Protocols that will be coming, but it is important that these updates to provide new pain control options be available as soon as possible, which is why it is being done on an emergency basis. OEMS is working hard to make sure that EMCAB is able to meet and provide advice on the EMS system, including next year’s updates to the Protocols. There are multiple exciting events on the horizon that will improve the EMS system. Thanks to all EMS personnel and ambulance services for your work and patience as we progress towards getting them implemented.

Attached please find the following documents, regarding the emergency update to the Pain and Nausea Management Protocol, for non-opioid options for managing various types of pain, in both adult and pediatric patients:
