EMT-Basic
28 hours continuing education
24 hour EMT-Basic refresher

EMT-Intermediate
28 hours continuing education
36 hour refresher or 24 hour EMT-Basic refresher and 12 hour EMT-Intermediate "Add-on" refresher

EMT-Paramedic
25 hours continuing education
48 hour EMT-Paramedic refresher

* Recertification Requirements must be completed by the last day of the year prior to the actual expiration date on the EMT card.

Example: Your card indicates an expiration date of April 2011. You may count continuing education and refresher credits from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010.

Track your own credits! Keep careful records of the continuing education programs you attend. This will help expedite the process of recertification if a discrepancy arises between the number of courses you completed for credit and the number of credits OEMS has on record.
