NoticeZ: Updated Statewide Treatment Protocols and Advisory 20-01-27 Required Medication List, Effective April 1, 2020

The MA Department of Public Health’s (Department’s) Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) has issued the updated Statewide Treatment Protocols v. 2020.1, which will become effective April 1, 2020. The updated Protocols are available at https://www.mass.gov/doc/emergency-medical-services-pre-hospital-treatment-protocols-version-20201-effective-4120-pdf/download . The change chart, the memo describing the changes, and the required medications advisory can also all be found on the OEMS website’s Statewide Treatment Protocols page at https://www.mass.gov/lists/emergency-medical-services-statewide-treatment-protocols .  These Protocols have been developed and approved for recommendation to the Department by the Medical Services Committee of the Emergency Medical Care Advisory Board (EMCAB).

EMS personnel must be trained to operate under these updated Protocols and any pertinent changes to the required medications advisory, as applicable, by April 1,2020. Ambulance services and their training officers are responsible for ensuring all their EMS personnel have successfully completed training before implementing these Protocols and advisory updates. Once all service EMS personnel have been so trained and the service is appropriately equipped, they may start operating under these Protocols, but all must operating under these Protocols by April 1,2020.  Please note that documentation of successful completion of Protocol training for all service EMS personnel, will be reviewed by Department inspectors and investigators.

Training materials will be available soon from the Region II office. We are also taking orders for the printed books that will be sent to the printer later today.
