The 1996 EMS Agenda for the Future outlines the most important directions for future EMS development nationwide.

Education was identified as a key area for improvement and The EMS Education Agenda for the Future: A Systems Approach (download below) was created.  This document proposes an education system with five integrated components:

• National EMS Core Content
• National EMS Scope of Practice Model
• National EMS Education Standards
• National EMS Testing
• National EMS Education Program Accreditation
